Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel was born in 1883 and died in 1971. It is said that she was one of the most important designers of the 20th century. She created a new look for women, creating clothes that were primarily comfortable and allowed women to lead active lives.
She introduced the little black dress in the 1920s. The Chanel suit and her costume jewellery became stables in a fashionable wardrobe. An easily recognisable quilted shoulder handbag was introduced in 1955. The Chanel No.5 scent is the best-selling in the world. The interlocking Cs of Coco Chanel remain one of the ultimate brand insignia and is recognised all over the world.
The talk covers her life from her very poor beginnings to the development of a very successful Fashion House with just a few hiccups along the way!
